About Jean
Hey everyone, I’m Jean. I’m a student at James Madison University about to graduate. In May I will graduate with a major in Communication with a concentration in public relations and a cognate in sports marketing. For most of my college career I’ve been passionate about public relations and have 2 internships in NYC and DC with the possibility of another before I land a full time job. Though public relations is a big part of my life, I would have to say that music means just as much to me.
I’ve been a music lover my whole life. As a kid I listened to nothing but “oldies” with my dad while he quizzed me on the artists and titles of the songs on the radio. I think getting my first tape player for Christmas was one of the best presents I ever got. As I grew older I developed a bigger interest in pop music and became serious about learning instruments. My first year of college I studied music education and specialized in the flute. The major ended up not suiting me, but I remember wanting to do it in the beginning just because I wanted to show other people the feeling and meaning behind music.
Though I traded in my flute for a future desk job, I’ve still held onto my passion for music. I’ve done my best to keep up with industry news and trends, I have gotten to know several local bands and have attended many local shows. I am constantly making an effort to get to know new bands and new types of music. This means I have been paying close attention to the local scene, and I have come to realize the vast talent in the area and the need for it to be uncovered.

Jean – please check out the band, Gypsy Roots – they have a show coming up in Ashland, VA at Ashland Coffee and Tea March 22. It’s local, and they perform HOT Gypsy Jazz – http://www.gypsyroots.net and we’re working on a myspace account. It would be great to get this group out the Harrisonburg. Thanks.
Thank you for your comment! We’re always excited to hear about a new band. Unfortunately since Gypsy Roots doesn’t seem to be local to the Shenandoah Valley (Ashland is more Richmond than anything else), it’s not really under our umbrella. However, if Gypsy Roots is able to get a show in or around Harrisonburg we would be happy to check them out and write a post on their performance. Check out Dave’s Taverna, The Pub, Rocktown Bar and Grill and Tini’s for possible show venues.
