Visions for the Valley Vibrations
Midnight Train, The Sometime Favorites, Proverbial, Sweetbriar- these are bands that are playing this February at Rocktown. Did you know that? Do you know who they are? Did you know that many of these bands pack the house outside of Harrisonburg? Why not here?
Souled Out, Nathan Neff, Burning Bridges, Duces Wild- these bands are playing this month at The Pub. Did you know that these bands regularly draw crowds and ignite dancing all night long?
Maybe you do know all of these bands I’ve just mentioned and their reputations, maybe you don’t. I’m sure many more of you know Sons of Bill, Sparky’s Flaw and The Dave Mathews Band and are well aware of their successes. DMB started as a local band based out of Charlottesville and has been under the wing of Red Light Management located in Charlottesville ever since their beginnings. Sons of Bill and Sparky’s Flaw seem to be following in DMB’s footsteps as Sons of Bill has shows up and down the east coast and Sparky’s Flaw just got signed by Red Light Management last year. These three bands may have never gotten their start if it weren’t for our venues and dedicated fans in the Shenandoah Valley.
The Shenandoah Valley is no stranger to successful artists. But with so many great bands in the area, why do we not have more DMB’s out there making a name for us? This is a question we intend to address in this blog. We also want to introduce you to the bands in the area that seem to be on the verge of making it and just need a little oomph. These bands are also facing a different world than when DMB started up and have to deal with an industry that is ever more difficult to break into. In this blog, we will also discuss the road blocks in their way so that we as a community can try to help them overcome these obstacles.
